  • The most popular hair color in 2011 is blonde

Blonde is one of the most popular hair color shades for 2011 as it seems that blonde hair has a certain “je ne sais quoi” which enhances the sex appeal. There are a variety of blonde shades to choose from and this year anything goes. This means you will look amazing regardless of the blonde hue selected.

The choices you can make when it comes to this hair color are: platinum blonde, golden blonde, vanilla blonde, honey blonde, caramel blonde and strawberry blonde. All these blonde shades suit women with a fair or medium fair skin tone so make sure you choose the perfect blonde hair color for you.
The only way blonde will look great is if the hair is maintained in a healthy condition and if the hair color is maintained with proper hair color protective products.
It's been said than “blondes have more fun” so give this hair color a try and see if this affirmation is true or false.

    Hair color trends 2011

Over the years hair color companies have provided an array of choices to consumers. With hair companies addressing many of the concerns with regards hair color chemicals, hair color has become more hair friendly. The
wide variety of colors and shades has made life easier for consumers (or has it made it more difficult?).

With the start of the new decade, do we decide to go back to the fashion drawing board and do a complete overhaul or will the changes be more gradual? Many hair stylists believe that hair color trends from 2010 will influence the trends in 2011. It will also be a year where stylists go back to basics and focus on the four basic hair colors - blonde, brunette/brown, red, and black. Following are p opular hair colors for 2011.

BLONDE: In 2011, not just millionaires will prefer blonds. Let that blonde shade make you feel like Marilyn. When blonde color is enhanced with cool, neutral and warm tones it can look very attractive. Some incredible blonde shades that can be achieved are light ash blonde, light golden blonde, pale blonde, white blonde, vanilla blonde, platinum blonde, strawberry blonde, bright golden blonde, medium golden blonde, honey blonde, caramel blonde, dark ash blonde.

Usually blonde shades are more suited to people with fair to medium skin tone, but dark skinned people can also look great with blonde hair. A note of caution is that blonde hair needs to have that healthy look; limp and unlooked after hair can look dull and lifeless. Lighter tones have to be looked after more than dark tones.

RED: Redheads, also called gingers, stand out in a crowd because of their vibrant hair color. Red hair color can range from bright copper to burnt orange to deep burgundy. Mixing red color with subtle lowlights can give a vivacious look. Red hair is certainly one of the more popular hair colors for 2011.

Just like blonde hair, red hair is more suited to fair people. Blonde and red hair colors are both high maintenance colors. Both need to be protected from sunlight and heat. Both colors can fade quickly and become dull looking. You should also be aware that bright red hair showcases the face, including any flaws.

Are you blond ? Do not use these shampoo

    What To Look For

There are countless shampoos for blondes on the market today--some for natural blondes, others for color-treated blondes--and some that may give results to both. Neutralizing purple shampoo is one product that can be used by all types of blondes to tone down brassiness. A fading color job and environmental pollutants can dull blonde hair and give it a harsh yellow hue. A purple shampoo will actually leave behind a bit of purple pigment on the hair to counteract the yellow, brassy blonde.

Another option is a blonde color depositing shampoo. Most major brands now offer a line of color depositing shampoos, and those formulated for blondes can accentuate subtle tones and add a bit of highlighting to the hair. Still other shampoos are formulated for color-treated blondes to counteract damage from the color process itself, and do not alter the color of the hair in any way.

    Common Pitfalls

While using a neutralizing shampoo after coloring is generally effective in reducing brassiness, the results from using a color depositing shampoo can be so subtle they may not seem worth it for everyone. Your own results with color-depositing shampoo will be determined by how compatible your hair color is with the tone you chose to shampoo with. Other shampoos that are formulated for color-treated blondes may promise to provide specialized moisture to counteract harsh bleaching processes, but in fact, may be no more effective than any other moisture-rich shampoo.

    Where To Buy

Shampoos that are specially formulated for color treated and natural blondes are available in grocery stores, drugstores, beauty supply stores and in salons. If your area does not carry these products, you can find a wide variety to choose from online.

    Cost

Shampoos for blondes vary considerably in price. An 8 oz. bottle found in the drugstore may only cost $3, but a high-end brand may run $30 or more for the same size bottle.

    How to have natural blonde

      • 1
Make Your Own Color Enhancing Shampoo.
Color enhancing shampoos purchased at your salon or local drugstore tend to be expensive and may contain harsh chemicals that can damage your hair and your health. The simplest solution is to make your own using all-natural ingredients. Start by purchasing a bottle of castile soap from your local supermarket or natural food store. This will serve as the base for your blonde hair shampoo. To make an easy color enhancing shampoo for blond hair, pour a half cup of castile soap into a glass container. Add five tablespoons of fresh lemon juice and a half cup of water. Mix thoroughly and place the ingredients into a microwave safe container. Microwave on high for a minute and a half. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature. Transfer to storage bottles to save until you next shampoo your hair. When you shampoo, allow the mixture to remain on your hair for five minutes before rinsing with cool water.
      • 2
To make another natural shampoo to enhance blonde hair, add five tablespoons of dried Chamomile flowers to a pint of water. Bring the water to a boil for forty minutes. Allow the water to cool to room temperature and then strain with a tea strainer to remove the dried flowers. Add the liquid to castile soap and store. The chamomile will help to brighten and add shine to your blonde hair.
      • Make a Blonde Hair Rinse.
Making a rinse to enhance blonde hair can be as simple as adding the juice of two lemons to two cups of warm water. The lemon juice has a gentle bleaching action that will subtly lighten and add shine to your hair. You can also prepare chamomile tea to use as a rinse for blonde hair. Rinses should be worked thoroughly through the hair and allowed to stay on for fifteen minutes before rinsing. Always use a cool water rinse to further enhance highlights and add shine.
      • 4
By using a shampoo and rinse to enhance blonde hair, you should see a subtle lightening and brightening of your blonde hair color which may become more pronounced with repeated use. Plus, the ingredients are gentle and won't damage your hair and are inexpensive enough not to damage your pocketbook.

    Professional hair

in this post I am going to talk about professional hair styles. A professional hair style is a style that while you are wearing it is stunning and you can feel it the way that people around you looking at your hair. My suggestion for a perfect style is a Faux hawk. not too long not too short just perfect length.

1.The most common mistake is to use gel or shinning wax,
or any other products that make your hair look greasy.
greasy hair shows how amateur a person is, it is never
    hot for a young person.

Now that you now greasy is amateur and you are never
going to use gel once again I am suggesting you to use
a hair spray. It's cheap and better effect on your hair.
If you would like you can use a wax which is not shiny
a matt wax only for textures. The finishing spray keeps
your hair the way you texture them in less than 10 seconds.
Keep in mind it is very important that you never over apply
any product and never look greasy.

If you just take quick look at celebrity hair styles you never see them with crazy greasy hair, always professional hair which looks natural with a little bit using a shining spray, but this is important to look natural and not amateur.

    2. Never forget about the back of your head. It is the place that most people forget about it. You can't see it but you can feel it. Touch them and visualize how they look. after a while you can make them perfect just by feeling them. People will notice that you make the back of your hair and it make your hairstyle too look hot.

3.Try to make your just a bit messy very little, still keep them perfect but just enough messy to make it casual. it can be achieved by using a bit of wax and immediately hair spray on them.

    Warning :
Do not make your hair too crazy by over applying products. It just shows how beginner you are. Right amount of spray will hold them in place so you never need to use more.
Always try to be different from others if they make a neat mo hawk you make it a bit messier with a bit more details. or having a bit longer hair in the back. It helps you to shine between others.

That is my favorite Hair spray it is just shiny enough , and smells fabulous, I promise you don't even need to wear your cologne. I have been using it for 6 years now.

    Faux hawk style

A faux-hawk is a hairstyle that emulates the Mohawk without requiring the wearer to shave the sides of his or her head. The faux-hawk is a unisex style sported by men and women, and can be styled on long or short hair (although it really only works for guys when the hair is short).
A faux-hawk with long hair blends rock-and-roll punk flavor with classic elegance and style due to the way the hair is swept up on the sides of the head. It can modernize a vintage dress and create a bit of edge to an otherwise overly soft and demure look.
    Difficulty:
    Easy

    Instructions

    things you'll need:

    • Hair
    • Styling product, styling paste or gel if you need a professional style you need a spray
    • Bristle brush

      • 1
        Long Hair
Do not wash your hair directly before styling a faux-hawk, especially if your hair is soft and fine. Apply some thick styling product to the sides of your hair with the palms of your hands. Styling paste or glue will work best to keep your faux-hawk in place.
      • 2
Use a bristle brush to help you make a high ponytail with the top 2/3 of your hair. Leave the front section of hair that creates the hairline on your forehead out of the ponytail.
      • 3
Make a ponytail directly under the first ponytail with the bottom portion of your hair.
      • 4
Tease the front section of hair with a fine-toothed comb for volume. This creates the height in the faux-hawk. Gently brush the hair back, smoothing the front, and push it forward making the front stand up. Secure with bobby pins.
      • 5
Finish this look with a strong hairspray, and by using a mirror to see how the back looks.
      • 6
        Short Hair
The first step of making a faux-hawk with short hair is the same as making one with long hair. You may opt to coat the hair evenly with product however for better hold.
      • 7
Use your hands to make your hair stand up straight. Pull hair from the roots. If your hair is thin, tease it to help maintain volume. Smooth the hair on the sides. Use a curling iron, flat iron or blow dryer to help if needed.
      • 8
Smooth, and finish with a strong hold hairspray. Aerosol sprays make sure the look doesn't fall, and choose a spray that is not too heavy for thin hair.

    Looking younger than your age

Hairstyle reflects a woman's confidence, personality and her age. We often check our hair in a mirror or the reflection in a window as we pass by. How many times do we touch our hair and ensure that it stays in place throughout the day. Can the right hairstyle make you look younger?

If you are woman over forty with sagging skin and dull hairstyle, do not lose heart. With a little planning and styling effort, you can look stylish and attractive. Beautiful hair begins with healthy hair. Healthy hair can make the difference between fabulous hair and an ordinary 'do'. Pick up hair tips to look younger.

    Hairstyles to look younger

A balanced haircut, correctly chosen hairstyle with soft curves or waves and soft color can lend your face a natural glow. With the right hairstyle, you can make a matured face appear more attractive and younger. Few hairstyles that you can try include bobs, bangs, fringes, short-cropped styles, and gentle waves or curls. Such hairstyles soften the edges and make you look younger than your age.

Classic bob evenly cut all over is popular with middle aged and older women. Do not try layering as it might not suit a more matured look. If you have straight hair, go for bangs that are softly cut and swept to one side. This creates a soft look around the face, cutting down the harshness of wrinkles and high cheekbones.

Face balancing styles are the key to look young. As we grow older, our facial features being to sag. A good way to reduce the appearance of sagging would be a shorter haircut with the last layer ending mid-neck to chin. Adding a fringe, with a slight wave and a side part can be a great way to keep features in balance as well. A softer hairstyle frames the face thus drawing away the attention from larger features.

Avoid sharply defined curls as they make your facial lines and creases stand out. Also, avoid sleek or straight looks as they too accentuate facial lines and creases. Try giving your hair a little volume and wave to ensure that you are highlighting the right features of your face.

    Hair tips to look younger

Short hairstyle is usually more flattering to the woman over forty. However, be warned, it is not wise to go extremely short since it can be harsh and too masculine for many mature faces. Remember, soft, fringy lines work better for older skin than severely cropped lines.

If you have short hair, or going for a short haircut, do not over style it. Achieve slight fullness in the crown by using a larger curling iron and a little back combing.

    Hair color

Rich and shiny color is very important to youthful looking hair. Try to stay with natural looking color, two or three shades lighter than your original hair color. While choosing hair colors, go for the one that brings out the natural glow of your skin. Visit a professional hair colorist to get some good tips for a flattering hair color and shiny hair.

What every blond should know ?

A Rainbow of Rules to live by!
From bold bleach to rich colour and subtle highlights, Garnier Nutrisse Cream’s blonde shades and nourishing bleach creams have all the solutions you need to bring out your best blonde self! So give your hair some tender loving care. Here are a few tips every blond should know at every stage of the going-blond process:

Shades of Blond: Choosing Yours The right mate, the ideal job, the right friends, the right attitude... and the right blonde. Big life decisions can be tough, but choosing the right shade of blonde is refreshingly easy. With tones and shades to suit every look and lifestyle, finding your perfect blonde Nutrient Cream hue is the first big step in your transformation. Here are a few pointers to get the ball rolling:

Blonde Beauty Since natural blond hair is, by nature, quite delicate and porous, it requires extra special care. A few haircare secrets can keep your blond locks as luminous as you are. Here are some tricks of the trade:
    • Always use the conditioner that comes with your Nutrisse Cream nourishing bleach or blond shade. This special conditioner helps close hair cuticles, nourishes hair and helps preserve your new haircolour.
    • Reapply every 4-6 weeks to maintain a fresh,luminous, healthy-looking blond.
    • Chop, chop! Don’t forget to get your ends trimmed regularly to add to the healthy look of your hair.
    Blond Enemies :
Eek, dryness! A blond’s arch nemesis. Have no fear, though, a regular haircare regimen of products designed for colour-treated hair can keep the dryness far, far away.

Protect yourself. Sunshine, saltwater and chlorine can dry out your hair, so protection is key! To be extra safe, before heading into sun or surf, tie your hair up in a bun or get yourself a cute hat.

Beat the heat. Yet another culprit of hair damage is heat styling. That’s why all good blonds make sure their hair is completely dry before breaking out the flat iron. Why? Because damp hair expands beneath the iron's heat, resulting in damaged cuticles

    How to Shampoo ?

First, thoroughly saturate scalp and hair using warm or cool water (hot water tends to dry out hair and scalp). Apply a small amount of shampoo (about the size of a quarter) to palm and rub hands together to evenly distribute. Now apply shampoo to scalp with the balls of your fingers. The primary objective of shampooing is to clean your scalp, not wrestle your hair, so concentrate on massaging gently and allow suds to be distributed throughout hair while rinsing. It’s not necessary to do the “rinse and repeat” routine unless you have an oily scalp.

The right way to condition -
After rinsing shampoo, apply some conditioner in one hand and rub palms together to evenly distribute. Apply conditioner from the middle of the hair shaft down to ends; do not massage conditioner onto scalp unless scalp is dry. Comb through hair to distribute product evenly. Leave conditioner on hair long to help smooth the cuticle—it only takes a few seconds. Rinse thoroughly - It’s important to rinse shampoo and conditioner from your scalp. Stand under the shower and gently lift hair to permit the water to reach the scalp. Hair will be thoroughly rinsed when it feels consistently clean as you run your fingers from scalp to ends. Some people believe a cold water rinse is best.

To wash or not to wash? -
Shampooing frequency for normal hair depends on whether hair is curly or straight. Shampoo and condition straight hair every day for a sleek, radiant look. Curly hair, however, becomes too fluffy if it’s washed too often, so it’s okay to shampoo and condition every other day.

Should you occasionally switch shampoos? -
Most Salon shampoos do not build up on hair; they continue to work effectively as long as you use them, so there’s no need to switch products (another myth debunked). However, shampooing occasionally without using any conditioner or styling products to give hair a rest. Choosing the right products for your hair - Fine or thin hair can sometimes be more delicate and could benefit from a protein enriched shampoo and conditioner formula with a light level of conditioner. Curly hair may look dry, and therefore can benefit from a regimen which includes moisturizing ingredients.
    Chemistry of shampoos
People expect a lot from shampoos. Unfortunately, it is not easy to tell a good shampoo from a poor one. Cost, fragrance, and lots of foam is what most people look for in shampoo products. Lather and foam is of little importance , but they often get the most attention.
Foaming occurs when surfactant molecules gather around air instead of oil. The result is millions of tiny bubbles. Obviously, the air bubbles are using the surfactants that should be removing dirt and oil. We have all seen shampoo advertisements showing happy, beautiful people taking showers with their heads heaped high with mounds of lather. These images have taught the public to associate lather with cleansing ability.
The truth is, lots of foamy lather only means too much shampoo was used. Excess foam equals waste. Sebum and other oils quickly destroy foam. Ideally, the head should have just enough lather to lubricate the scalp and hair. This will help your fingers massage the shampoo more effectively into the hair.
Fragrances and foaming qualities are not good ways to evaluate shampoos. Examine the hair's condition after several uses. Is it flyaway, is it hard to comb, does it seem limp, do colors fade, is the hair dry or the scalp itchy?
Carefully choose the shampoo to use and recommend. The quality of your services and the success of your repeat business may depend on the decision of product choice

The major types of surfactants are:
    Anionic (an-eye-ON-ick)
    Cationic (kat-eye-ON-ick)
    Nonionic (non-eye-ON-ick)
    Amphoteric (am-fo-TERR-ick)
Identification and names are important in all professions but for chemists, they are especially useful. Chemists try to choose names that provide information about the chemical. For example, anionic and cationic surfactants both end with "ionic" for a reason. These surfactants are a special type of chemical called an ion (EYE-on). Salt bonds are important type of chemical bonds in the hair. Salt bonds give hair many important properties and affect most chemical treatments. Although the term salt bond is used frequently in cosmetology, it is incorrect. These chemical bonds are actually called ionic bonds, and they occur between ions. Ions and ionic bonds are really quite simple to understand. Ions are molecules that have small electrical charges. These charges are positive or negative. They repel or attract each other. Opposite charges attract and similar charges repel.
Table salt, sodium chloride, is an excellent example. Sodium forms positive ions and chlorine makes negative ions. The opposite charges attract each other and make table salt. These charges are identical to those found in batteries or static electricity, but on a much smaller scale. Individual ionic bonds are very weak, but millions of them in combination are quite strong. Surfactants with a negative charge are called anionic (an-eye-ON-ick). A surfactant with a positive charge is cationic.

Anionic Surfactants (Negatively charged ion) Anionic surfactants are the most widely used detergents in the cosmetology profession. They are inexpensive, simple to prepare, and excellent cleaners. They also rinse easily from the hair. A major disadvantage is that they can be harsh and irritating to the scalp Frequently, other surfactants and ingredients are added to reduce skin irritation.

Cationic Surfactants (Positively charged ion) Cationic surfactants are rarely used in high concentrations in the cosmetology profession. Many types are dangerous to the eyes but are safe and useful in low amounts. Until recently, their positive charges prevented them from being mixed with negatively charged anionic surfactants. Newer types, however, eliminate this incompatibility.

Look at the label!!! Here is a guide to how gentle your shampoo is according to the surfactant used:
Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate - very, very, harsh
Ammonium Laureth Sulfate- very harsh but better than the above
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate- better than the above, but still a little harsh
    Sodium Laureth Sulfate-gentle, great pick!
    TEA lauryl Sulfate-good pick
    TEA Laureth Sulfate-good pick

Curly hair ? make it this way

    Long Curly Hairstyle Picture

The straight look might be the in thing now but curly hair definitely continues to be in fashion. Through ages, naturally curly hair has been a proof of beauty, versatility and sexiness that is usually considered lacking in the straight hair.

For instance, look at Hollywood star Minnie Driver. The brunette's sexy curls make her a favorite among photographers and also among the best looking divas who continue to be unfazed by the straight hair look that's sweeping in.
Depending on your face shape and personality, curly hair can be remodeled into a range of hairstyles that can look sleek as well sexy at the same time. If it is of the medium length leave it loose and let it frame your face in an umbrella like fashion, naturally defining your facial features. At the same time, it will soften the contours of your face and give you a fresh youthful look.

In fact, layers look great on curly hair. A professional hairstylist will know the exact layers and style that will flatter the face shape. This kind of hair usually is best if left loose and unlike straight hair, never has the chance to look limp and boring.

Curly hair does not necessarily mean that you are out of fashion. Take, for example, Sarah Jessica Parker, another celebrity with curly hairstyle credentials that are beyond question.  She carries her hairstyle with elan, and despite the current straight hair fashion trend, refuses to alter the natural wave of her hair thus compromising her hair's health.
What is then the best curly hairstyle to have? Well, experts suggest that the best curly hairstyle that you can have is the one that combines your hairstyle as well as the care for your hair. If you are blessed with naturally curly air, love it. Nourish it and take care of it instead of going to extreme limits to straighten it to be a part of the fashion crowd. Apart from long flowing wavy hair, short cults too look great on curly hair. Make a short bob that envelops your face and you can retain for a long time your youthful schoolgirl look.
Choose a hairstylist who understands your basic hair structure and respects curls. He will know ways to cut your curly hair to make you look and feel fashionable. Do not go to hairstylist who will make you feel down for having a hair that cannot be easily straightened. Remember, the whole idea is to look good and glamorous and not just to have a straight hair and be in fashion.

Keep in mind that it is quite tough to maintain curly hair than it is to manage other hair types. So make sure that you take proper care of your hair and especially wash them daily.  Do not brush or comb them too vigorously as they tend to damage the natural shape of the hair. Consequently, the hair will look very drab and dull.

Perms might be out of fashion, but curly and wavy hair are still very much in. So do not be disheartened if you have curly hair; make the best use of your hairstylist that brings out the best in your hair and makes you proud of your curls.

Remember, straightening might not be good for the health of your hair, especially if it is very curly.

How to look young with your hair

working class hairstyle1How should a professional woman style her hair? There is no single accurate answer for this question. Beyond individual preferences, the appropriate hairstyle depends on many factors, most importantly, the nature of her job. The job description of her chosen profession has a great influence on the way a woman should style her hair.

But other factors also come into play, such as her other social roles and her personal goals. Sometimes, these factors have conflicting demands on her. For example, a woman might be an event planner who may need a glamorous long hairstyle, but she is also a new mom whose baby likes to grab her hair. Choosing the right hairstyle is achieving a compromise for all conflicting factors and still having a confident-boosting outward appearance. The following tips will be useful in helping you choose the appropriate professional hairstyle.
Tip #1: Redefine your job description
To be successful in her career and still be fashion-savvy, a woman must examine her job description from the point of view of hairstylists. Regardless of a woman's profession, her hairstyle should help her appear more attractive. Unfortunately, some women may not see the need for styling her hair or that her job forces her to be stuck in an unattractive hairstyle.

For example, a woman who works in a laboratory will be wearing a bulky lab coat, along with gloves and goggles, and sometimes, with earmuffs and a gas mask. Her job description demands that she keeps her hair out of the way. Thus, she has her hair pulled back in a severe bun. What if her laboratory research finally yields results that are worthy of media attention? She couldn't emerge from her laboratory looking like an overworked scientist who talked to beakers.

Instead, her hairstylist would suggest a short stylish hairstyle, perhaps a chic bob. Her hair will still be out of the way while she pours slimy sludge into a flask, but when she removes the coat, the goggles, and the mask, she would look like a confident celebrity stepping out of a fashion magazine. Simply put, you may think like Einstein, but you don't have to look like him.
Short Hairstyle PictureTip #2: Don't forget the basics
Now that you know that you need not be trapped by the stereotypes and preconceptions that are linked to your profession, you will find a wide a variety of hairstyles that you are tempted to try. This is when your Einstein-like thinking is needed. Not all these hairstyles will look good on you. You need to remember all laws, both scientific and aesthetic.

When it comes to hairstyles, the ones that will show off your best features will be those that are appropriate for the shape of your face. For example, an oblong shape face could not get away with extremely long hair, and the square shape face could not benefit from a cropped bob. The aesthetics law that hairstylists faithfully adhere to is to have hairstyles that create illusions. For example, a medium-length layered hairstyle will create an illusion of length and narrowness for women who have round face shapes.
working class hairstyleTip #3: Strive for an ageless style
Another factor to weigh in choosing hairstyles is your age. This does not mean that you need a hairstyle that reflects the fad of the year you were born. It means that your hairstyle must accede, to some degree, to the social expectations of your age. For example, when you are in your forties, do not be tempted to have green highlights or asymmetrical cuts. If you really wanted highlights, choose the more subtle colors. And if you really wanted to copy Victoria Beckham's chic bob, compromise with a longer length or a less radical angle.

Does this mean that older women have a more limited of selection of hairstyle? On the contrary, older women have more freedom with hairstyles. When you're in your forties, you can actually get away with a lot of things. But you must remember to appear more elegant rather than stylish, and to appear shrewd rather than obtuse. If you are in your twenties, you can still copy a lot of the trendier hairstyles, even those that are considered extremes.

Ageless Working Class HairstyleBut you must still consider the nature of your job. For example, if you are in the insurance business, you want your hairstyle to encourage your clients to have confidence in your professional abilities. That is, you don't want your clients to think that you are too young for your job.

2011 , the most flattering cuts and relaxed for girls who want practical cuts without having to invest much time in your care and look, of course, very well, we know that fashion is changing in terms of how to take the hair, but actually are small innovations to the traditional courts that can be useful to many changes in look.
I usually try to take some time every year (since I plan to watch the Oscars anyway) and make some notes on the hair and fashions that come down the red carpet and on the stage at the Academy Awards. This awards show has for decades been considered the annual “party of parties” in Hollywood. All of the celebrities come and don their absolute finest (usually) and give those of us who don’t lead glamorous lives the chance to live vicariously through them for an evening. Most of us will have seen the films and will have our favorites to win in many of the categories, and we want to see the stars sparkle as they (hopefully) climb the steps to get their golden statue.

So let’s take a look at the trends for this year’s awards show as it pertains to dress and hair, and we can even take a closer look and break down some of the better (and not so great) looks

    The Women

Overall, this year’s red carpet looks were classic Hollywood. Most all the women shimmered and sparkled in gowns that ranged from vintage and archival couture, to modern-day designers. Most of the fabrics were lightweight, semi-sheer and flowing – perhaps inspired by the Best Picture contender, “The Black Swan”. Another factor to note was that most everyone seemed to dress very “age-appropriate”, which was a question given that one of the year’s Best Supporting Actress nominees is in her early teens.

Hairstyles were by and large classically-inspired and polished. Those women who have their “signature” styles, wore them of course, but those whose styles are versatile generally went for carefully coiffure styles. While there were upstyles clearly to be seen, many women chose to wear silky smooth waves (a la Veronica Lake) or kept their up-dos riding low on their nape area.

    The Men

Many people claim that men have it easy when it comes to formal wear, and to a small degree, that may have some truth to it. Usually, the man’s hardest choice is which designer’s tux to wear. Of course, this year, it seems that many of the leading men decided to take a page from the old-school leading men like Tony Curtis and Cary Grant and went a little more classic with their hair as well. Actors of all ages kept their locks cropped close and styled smooth in classic configurations. It made for a parade of Dapper Dons down the red carpet and across the stage. There were the exceptions to the rule, since many celebrities have their “personae” to consider whenever they’re out in public, so the occasional patterned tux and windblown curls could be seen, but those were almost expected among many of today’s comedic actors.
